Hope Garden

Garden Information and History

Hope Garden provides plots at no charge to community members. Garden membership includes the use of tools, tillage, seeds, and water. As planting season approaches, New Hope is also looking to host classes on canning and freezing produce.

From 2014 to 2015, Hope Garden grew from 6- 10'x20' garden plots to 11- 12'x24' garden plots. In addition Hope Garden also hosts a communal garden plot for their NEST program and United Way of Mahaska County's Oskaloosa Summer Lunch program. New Hope Community Center Inc. has expanded their education opportunities related to gardening. On Thursdays, a farm stand is available for families to purchase fresh produce or utilize their Farmers Market WIC vouchers. Community members can also particpate in plant-based cooking classes where they are able to try the food and take the recipes home.
